Welcome to the English Lake District and the
Allerdale Court Hotel.
The Allerdale Court Hotel is situated in the old
Market Place of Cockermouth, the town regarded by many as the true gateway to
the English Lake District. The listed building of some architectural interest
dates back to the the 17th century. Original oak beams and an open fire help to
retain the warm relaxing atmosphere found here.
The most famous mutineer in history, Fletcher
Christian, after seeing his crewmates slain by Tahitian natives was said to have
escaped on a ship with one Captain Folger and returned to Cockermouth. Rumour
has it that he may have returned to the house that is now the Allerdale Court
Hotel.
Now family owned and run, we pride ourselves on
the warm hospitality, good food and the constant attention to detail that are
the hallmarks of the Allerdale Courts friendly and dedicated staff.
Dining at The Allerdale Court is an
important part of any guest's stay and it is not by chance that each of our two
restaurants have earned fine reputations both locally and nationally.
The traditional "Pickwick" restaurant is
very popular with our residents, guests and local customers alike. Superb
freshly cooked food, and plenty of it, served with smiling experience to your
table.
"Oscars" is a busy, fashionable night time venue,
food with a Latin theme, but also plenty of grills, steaks, fish and
specialities. Lively and friendly with a well earned reputation. A sparkling
evening out.
To complement both restaurants, our bar offers the
full range of wines, ales and spirits that you would expect to find in a
Lakeland hostelry.
Accommodation. The hotel has 21 en-suite
bedrooms, individually furnished and tastefully equipped to complement the
character of the building and to facilitate the most discerning guest. All our
rooms have hospitality trays, colour television, radio and telephone modem
points. Family
rooms are available, dogs are welcome. Our concern is your comfort and
relaxation throughout your stay.
Along with the most familiar pursuits of guests to
a town situated in the English Lakes, such as fell walking, sailing or just
enjoying the breathtaking scenery, the hotel is close to the "Lorton Valley" one
of the most spectacular but little known areas to visit.
Fishing is available on the River Derwent, one of
the best salmon rivers in England, only a hundred yards from the hotel and an
ideal location for an evening stroll.
The West coast of Cumbria is a few miles
from Cockermouth, well worth exploring from Silloth in the North to Muncaster
Castle in the South. The hotel is also a favourite for golfers, being close to
five good courses.
