Over 200 years old, The Fountain Inn is located in the delightful village of Parkend at the heart of the Royal Forest of Dean. Parkend was once a centre for the mining and smelting of iron ore, and the Fountain Inn was built to serve the local mining population. When the Great Western Railway arrived in the village in 1858, the Inn was extended to provide refreshment and accommodation for the passengers..

Relax and enjoy a drink in our comfortable bar. The upper area dates back to 1767 and is the oldest surviving building in Parkend, while on the walls and shelves you'll find a wealth of interesting and unique artefacts relating the history of Parkend. We always have a selection of three real ales on tap, including a guest ale which is changed monthly, single serve wines by the bottle and, if you fancy something a little special, we have Prosecco in both single serve and large bottles always chilled ready.

We have an extensive menu of freshly cooked, homemade meals. You'll find traditional favourites, such as our home-battered cod and chips, as well as more innovative dishes, such as pan-fried chicken breast finished in stilton sauce. And, our award winning chefs create new specials weekly; so there’s always something different and exciting on the menu to choose from. We've also incorporated a range of gluten and dairy free items, but if you have any other dietary requirement, our chefs will be happy to accommodate you.

The Inn has seven guest rooms, including two family rooms, one of which has been adapted for the less able. All rooms in the Inn are 4-star rated, en-suite and decorated and furnished to a high standard with televisions and tea and coffee making facilities. Room service is also offered and breakfast in bed is available after 9:15am..

Parkend is an ideal location for touring the Royal Forest of Dean, one of England's few remaining ancient forests. Once a hunting ground for Kings, it is now enjoyed for its natural beauty, peace and tranquillity. Activities available locally include tennis, golf, fishing, canoeing, clay pigeon shooting and horse riding.
