The Talbot Hotel

We say...

Oundle is a great place for a short break. This attractive market town boasts many stone built Georgian buildings and lovely walks by the River Nene. The 14th century church is well worth a visit, as is the small town museum. You can also visit the site of Fotheringhay Castle, just 4 miles from Oundle.

Overview

Welcome to the historic (and perhaps haunted!) Talbot Hotel.

The ghost of none other than Mary Queen of Scots is said to haunt the Talbot Hotel. It is certainly true that the hotel's fine oak staircase came from the ruins of Fotheringhay Castle where Mary was imprisoned prior to her death. It is said that she walked to her execution down this very staircase.

However she seldom makes an appearance, so fear not and enjoy the atmosphere of this grand Elizabethan building. With its oak beams, open fires and transomed windows, it simply oozes warmth and character.

The hotel's restaurant and cosy bar offer traditional British cuisine, fine wines and real ales. All the comfortable en-suite bedrooms are fully appointed and include four feature suites.

The hotel is just 10 miles from Peterborough. Oundle itself is a charming town with many attractive stone built Georgian buildings to admire.
