The Black Swan at Oldstead is an award-winning restaurant with rooms, awarded a Michelin Star & Three AA Rosettes for top quality food and 5 stars for bedrooms. The Black Swan is situated close to Byland Abbey, Coxwold and Kilburn and easily reached from Ampleforth College, Thirsk, Helmsley and York.

The original building dates back to the 16th century and is set on the edge of the small village of Oldstead amidst beautiful rolling National Park countryside. A quiet haven away from traffic and main roads.

The award-winning restaurant is becoming established as one of the best places to eat in the North Yorkshire area whether for a special occasion dinner or a more casual meal. Food is available either in the restaurant or the bar or on the oak tables outside.

Food at the Black Swan The restaurant has a comfortable friendly atmosphere with the oak floor, Persian rugs, antique furniture and soft light from traditional candles in old brass holders giving a feeling of understated quality. Diners are received in the characterful bar which features a stone flagged floor, an open log fire, oak fittings by Mousey Thompson Craftsmen of Kilburn, window seats, soft cushions and antique furnishings.

Accommodation

A four poster bed at The Black Swan There are four stylish bedrooms situated in a south-facing wing overlooking beautiful rolling countryside. All the rooms are on the ground floor and each opens onto an individual terrace with a comfortable seating area.

The accommodation is newly renovated to an exceptionally high standard and has recently been awarded 5 Yellow Stars by the AA (the highest rating). The bedrooms are furnished with quality antiques and have solid oak floors, stylish soft furnishings and paintings. The really comfortable top quality pocket-sprung king-size beds have crisp white cotton bed linen with either thick winter or cooler summer duvets.

Bar

The bar at The Black Swan The Bar features a stone flagged floor, an open log fire, oak fittings by Mousey Thompson Craftsmen of Kilburn, window seats, soft cushions and antique furnishings. Choice at the bar includes local real ales, good wines by the glass, malt whiskies and vintage port.

Food available in the bar includes lighter options, such as Salads, Ploughmans, Soup and Sandwiches, and are offered at lunchtime. All the restaurant menus are also available in the bar or indeed outside. Listed in The Times as one of the “10 Top Alfresco Restaurants” in
