Featured Yuletide Breaks

Our Haunted Hotels page is taking a well earned break after our most successful Halloween yet! A couple of the inns that list with us, namely the Lord Crewe Arms and the Brocket Arms, were even featured as two of "The Perfect 10: Haunted Hotels" on an online magazine!

Of course, now all of the focus appears to be shifting to Christmas and New Year. As we work directly with hotels and inns, we personally think our offers are the best out there! Here are two of our favourites:

Christmas in a Cottage

Imagine this...it's Christmas Eve. You have all of your family - extended and otherwise - around a open fire, with a bowl of mulled wine slowly simmering away on the hob. Outside the hot tub is bubbling away under the open stars and maybe, just maybe, you can hear the bells of the local church ringing out for the Christmas service.

Christmas Cottages for Rent

It's just like the English Country Inns office! Honest!

Sounds perfect, eh? Here are English Inns we're not specialists in Cottage Breaks, but even we have to agree that there is no better way to bring in Christmas or New  Year. To spark your curiosity, here are some links which you may find rather useful if you're looking to spend Christmas in a cottage!

Thanks to Historic UK for providing these links to us. We'd also love to hear from you if you have any other ideas on unique and charming Christmas breaks in England - please drop us a line in the comments below!

New Year Short Breaks

Leading seamlessly from our last Christmas-themed blog posting, today we want to chat about New Year Short Breaks.

New Years Clock

Honestly? We prefer Christmas...

Why? Because even here in the English Country Inns office we're slightly befuzzled and wholy undecided on what on earth we're going to be doing! Here are some replies from when I asked the question around the office a little earlier:

  • Rebecca (our newest employee who just started last week) - Heading down to Trafalgar Square in London with some friends. Planning on a cheap New Year.
  • Deborah - Has booked a cottage in the Lake District and plans on having a new year short break with the family.
  • Ben - Travelling up to Edinburgh for Hogmanay.
  • Trevor - Decided against a new year break and is instead staying at home with the family...with a glass or two of whisky!

We'd love to hear what you've got planned for the New Year, so please leave us a comment below. Alternatively drop us a line on Twitter (we're @innsuk). Of course if you're still undecided, be sure to check out our New Year Short Breaks page which we'll be updating with 2010/2011 deals in the upcoming months. Shameless plug I know!

All that leaves me to say is "Good Luck England" for the game against Algeria on Friday!
